BACKGROUND468NY is a publishing group that creates catalogs depicting the lives of New Yorkers. Producing content based in New York, 468NY captures various scenes from people walking to work to those enjoying the sun in the park with their loved ones. By emphasizing the photography and essay, 468NY hopes to create a small pause in people’s busy lives to appreciate each other’s presence.
DESIGNThe design system of 468NY is based on the geography of New York where the city is based on a grid. The horizontal and vertical lines divide up the space, and the use of monospace serif and monospace sans-serif push this idea further. The colour system represents the following ideas: yellow and green tones for nature, blue tones for the highrises, and orange tones for the brick buildings. While this colour system is used as the main identity of the brand, the monthly catalog uses two of these colours and pairs with two new colours so that it creates cohesion without feeling repetitive.
